據介紹，案件的始作俑者為兩名在校女高中生。事件的起因聽起來讓人哭笑不得：２００８年６月份，赤峰市某中學同室居住的兩名女生在宿舍中因為一方懷疑另一方

color=#000000>腳臭在宿舍內產生異味引發爭吵，繼而矛盾升級，雙方各不相讓，並通過手機短信各自糾集他人到約定地點「解決問題」，且均不向外宣揚、後果自負。隨後，雙方在約人到約定地點一決高低時，導致兩人輕傷。
儘管法院在審理中查明，案發時有２名被告人未滿十八週歲，１名被告人協助警方抓獲同案犯有立功表現，在訴訟過程中，有５名被告的家屬與受害人就民事賠償部分自行和解，但法不容情，參加鬥毆者中最終有８人被判處３個月至３年半不等的有期徒刑。
